Why does a plastic pipe through a fire-rated floor need a fire collar?
When a PVC-U pipe passes through a fire-rated concrete floor, it can soften during a fire and leave an opening. A correctly selected fire collar reacts under heat and closes that opening, helping the floor maintain its fire resistance.
