Retrofitting over damaged cast-in fire collars after the concrete pour.

What if a cast-in collar is damaged, contaminated or cannot be relied on after the pour?

Do not assume the penetration remains compliant. Fendix provides an assessed retrofit over supported existing cast-ins that are functional, non-functional or of unknown function.

Each collar shown was identified on site as non-functioning. The visible conditions include damaged housing or closure components and concrete-slurry contamination.

Condition 01Mechanical damage

The SNAP cast-in collar's closure components are damaged or displaced.

The original housing and spring-loaded components are damaged, so the cast-in collar cannot be relied upon to activate as intended.

The Fendix solution

The Fendix Collar installs directly beneath the damaged SNAP cast-in collar and becomes the fire-stopping device without relying on its damaged closure mechanism.

The cast-in collar is buried in concrete slurry.

Slurry has entered or covered the collar at the slab face, obstructing components intended to activate during a fire.

Avoiding a bulkhead or pipe alteration

Where the buried cast-in cannot be relied upon, the Fendix Collar provides a direct assessed retrofit beneath it—avoiding the fire-rated bulkhead or pipe alterations that may otherwise be required.

The existing cast-in collar is damaged and non-functioning / non-compliant.

The cast-in collar's springs and intumescent material are damaged, loose or no longer present, so it cannot be relied upon as the fire-stopping device. A conventional circular fire collar cannot simply be installed over the top to make the penetration compliant. The assessed retrofit solution is the Fendix Collar.

The direct Fendix retrofit

The Fendix Collar installs directly beneath the damaged cast-in and becomes the fire-stopping solution—avoiding the fire-rated bulkhead that was traditionally required.

The damaged collar is not repaired or relied upon.

In the supported configuration, Fendix becomes the main fire-stopping device below the existing cast-in. This separate-site photograph shows the completed retrofit approach.

RTL FA 2981.02 includes supported Fendix configurations beneath existing cast-in collars that are functional, non-functional or of unknown function. Fendix does not restore the damaged collar. It becomes the fire-stopping solution beneath it—avoiding the pipe alterations or fire-rated bulkhead that may otherwise be required.
